    Gender Discrimination

    Introduction:

Basic purpose of this program is to create awareness among people by the fact that " all men and women are same." It's our own approach to create differences among them.

    Interviews:

Basic approach used in this program is interviews with famous and well-known personalities of all modes of life like professors, philosophers, journalist, actors, poets' etc. Its good for having interviews from such personalities because usually people are very much influenced by these personalities and they always try to follow them and their ideas.

Screen Shot of Gender WatchThese personalities had share and express their ideas and thinking regarding gender discrimination. In this program, views of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Iftikhar Arif (poet) Kishwar Naheed, Shabnam Shakeel (poetess), Aroosa Alam (journalist), Fakhir (singer), and Faryal Gohar (actress) are included. And side by side views of people on road have also been included.

Most of them said that the basic reason for gender discrimination is our conservative thinking, to think of women just as a weak creature, just like an object, that they can't do anything except of cooking and fashion. First of all we have to change our way of thinking. For this mental growth is necessary and for mental growth education is necessary.

These personalities have also point out the problems faced by women because of gender discrimination. They are:

    • Dependence of females on males in every matter of life.
    • Lack of opportunities for females.
    • Importance is always given to their physical appearance. No one takes in to consideration their intelligence, hard work and their creativeness.

There is no other reason except of defect in our basic thinking. Women and men posses same qualities but its our fault to create differences among these qualities. Man always think of themselves superior.

    Suggestion recommended in interviews:

    • Awareness and education is must for bringing any change.
    • We have to change our thinking and also our behavior. For this mass media can work a lot. Movements for the equal rights can also do a lot for this purpose.
    • Laws and rules should be made regarding gender discrimination and violence.
    • Programs should be launched against domestic violence.
    • All people should be aware and should participated in such programs.

Views of the people on road:

Some questions and interviews have also been taken from the people on road regarding the priority of sons on daughters. They said that now we have realized that son and daughter have equal rights.

To make this program more interesting, the entertaining and light talk of hosts has also been included. A song by a singing group "awaz" is also there and the poems of Ifthikhar Arif and shabnam Shakeel are also included. At the end of the program, hosts have announced another segment, GPO, gender post office and invite the people of all ages to write them through letters, e-mails, faxes to express their ideas and share their experiences regarding gender.
