Introduction:
In this program regarding gender and media they tried to find out the role of media in lessening the gender gap and how it portrays the image and role of our society's women. Where it is promoting the positive role, on the other hand promotion of negative role of female is also there.
Media is the most important source of provision of information, knowledge and entertainment, its major contribution is to bring change in the attitude of the people. Media is the most influencing source for bringing change in our thinking, cultural values and customs. Interviews and ideas:
Interviews have been taken from the people of related field like from journalists, actors, and artists like from Tasneem Ahmar (journalist), Mr.Zia Ud Din (journalist), Sarmad Subhai (writer and poet), Afzal Ahmad (artist), Faryal Gohar (artist), Jamal Shah artist), professor Dr. Syed Haroon, Shazia Manzoor (singer), Iqbal Bano (singer). Interviews have also been taken from the people on road about the role and character of women projecting in media. Their views regarding gender and media are as follows: They said that "Film and television" are the most effecting communication means among all the people. Faryal Gohar said that on television and film, while entertaining programs, females are mostly taken as a showpiece, just a dancing girl or presenting them as a very helpless and weak personality. Others said that what the real role is very far away from film and TV. They mostly promote glamour, take females as an action less object. In very few dramas or movies, women are shown as what they are, how they are working, how they are managing their lives, their families and household activities, what they are thinking, what they want to do, what are their real problems. All these issues are been totally ignored. They just amplify old ideas and concepts Same the case is there with "stage and theatre". They show women as a source of entertainment nothing else. "Print media" is somewhat plays a better role in this sector and provide awareness regarding male and females roles and gender issues. But "yellow journalism" is also there with this positive thing, which is just promoting glamour. GPO segment:

At the end, hosts said that media must project the respectable and honorable personality of women. The thing that we should realize is the potential of media, how strongly it can work how strongly it can effect the people's mind. It should be used as a source of education, awareness and should portray the real characters of the people; it must show the real challenges of life. |
