    Gender and Pakistan

    Introduction:

    Screen Shot of Gender WatchIn Pakistan gender discrimination is founded there in all phases of life. Awareness about the drawbacks of gender gap must have to be known by all the people. So the main thing for this is "education."

    Education is necessary for the women so that she can do a better training of future race for their bright future. Equality in all fields is must. Our society is male dominated and women are not at all involved in decision makings, patriarchal system is founded here, so males are the decision makers. So the first thing is equal sharing of women in all activities of life.

    Interviews and ideas:

    In interviews about gender and Pakistan, students, people of rural areas and the ideas of philosophers, professionals, journalists and other known personalities are involved. The important personalities included in this program are Dr. Anees Ahmad, Zubaida Jalal (federal minister of education), and many others. Their views are as follows:

    Dr. Anees Ahmad said that according to our religion, there is no difference between the male and female. They have equal rights and duties. All restrictions on females are just because of our customs and beliefs. Problems faced by women due to gender gap:

    They have pointed out the problems faced by women.

    • Women don't know what is their value, they couldn't get due respect.
    • Complete economic dependence of female on male.
    • Low rate of education among females.

    Women progress depends on their independence, education and realization of their real value, role and status.

    In Pakistan, as family system is patriarchal so they have always to compromise in all matters of life with the decisions taken by male members.

    Karokari and honor killing, these are the customs found in our system, which is nothing just a miserable violence. Such cruel customs and beliefs are the roots of inequality in Pakistan. All people should participate in eliminating such customs by changing their attitude and behavior.

    Maloomat segment:
    • Pakistan stands on 101 number regarding gender equality on world ranking.
    • 52% females and 37% males are deprived of basic facilities of development and progress.
    • 47million people in Pakistan are illiterate.
    • From 47 million, 29 million are women. It means 76% women are illiterate.

    GPO segment:

    Letters, faxes and emails shows that how this program is influencing people. They want to see such program and also want the continuation of this program. They feel free to share their ideas and experiences with sachet in the context of gender gap.

    At the end of the program hosts have announced that people are sending a lot of answers regarding gender jumla contest "meray khayal main gender ka matlab hai…" They will be included in the coming programs.
