    Gender and Empowerment

    Introduction:

Screen Shot of Gender WatchIn the start of the program they introduce the concept of empowerment. According to gender watch team empowerment is basically a financial independence, so the most important thing is financial empowerment. For the empowerment of both male and female, education, sharing and understanding of each other is necessary.

    Interviews and ideas:

For woman empowerment, education is important factor, we have to bring change in our social structure, cultural values and customs. Women behind wall is not our religious value, it is just to keep her always in the place of inferiority.

Rural women are working in fields in villages with their husbands and also doing the whole tasks of their home. They also have to take care of their children but all this job is unpaid, why it is so, so much struggle and no reward, they have nothing in their hand. It is all because of their unawareness and illiteracy. As compare to rural women, urban women are living a better life. Because mostly they all have the exposure of outer world due to mass media, education. They are aware of all their rights and their utilization. But this awareness and provision of rights is only founded in "formal sector." "Informal sector" women get nothing except of tiredness, stress and rude attitude and behavior of their husbands.

Economic freedom and social awareness are the ways towards empowerment. Respect and self-esteem are also the matters of empowerment.

In our society, another problem regarding this is, the property rights given to the females in Islam are not practically applied, and they are just existing on papers. It is an injustice with women and a hurdle in the way of their empowerment.

    GPO segment:

Gender is nothing but just a name of our "conservative thinking." Man and woman can be empowered completely only when there will be no gender difference. The thing is to give space and to left space for each other and then there will be no problem.
